Menopausal Syndrome refers to when a woman may have some symptoms associated with menopause, before, during or after menopause, such as hot flashes, low libido, depression/mood swing, insomnia and changes in skin/hair, and other tissues etc. These symptoms could be mild or severe, short or long term. Physical examination will usually show no abnormal function or atrophic changes in reproductive organs.

Cause of Menopausal Syndrome

In TCM, Chong and Ren Meridians are closely related with gynecological or reproduction aspects in women’s body. These meridians are closely related with kidney, which, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) says, stores human body’s reproductive energy, a.k.a Essence. A lot of menopausal symptoms are from hormonal imbalances, and by treating meridians and kidney, these symptoms will disappear.

Treatments

Herbal Medicine, and Moxibustion & Acupuncture: Herbal medicine (Internal) is very effective. Acupuncture along with moxibustion is also a great treatment when a patient is experiencing severe symptoms. In general, for supplementing and “tonifying” purpose, herbal medicine and moxibustion is more effective than acupuncture treatment alone.
